Best Cheap Eats

Restaurants in Ottawa tend to be on the pricey side.  Compared to Montreal, Toronto or Vancouver, the number of restaurants in Ottawa is quite small.  However, Ottawa is filled with well-educated, well-paid public servants.  Apply the basic laws of supply and demand, and you end up with restaurants that can get away with charging $30+ for a chicken dish.

But don’t despair… if you look hard enough, there are actually lots of delicious and affordable culinary experiences in O-Town.  Here are my top 5; they’re all laid-back, unpretentious and brimming with locals in-the-know:

-        The Manx : Loud and cozy; try it out for brunch too
-        The Hintonburger : Go on a nice weather day and eat at a picnic table
-        Siam Bistro : Doesn’t look like much outside, but the Thai dishes inside are great
-        Chez Lucien : Rub elbows with intellectuals and drink St. Ambroise
-        Ahora : Warm, friendly service and one of the only Mexican options in the city
